BERLIN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Stuttgart reaped their first win of the season after overpowering ten-men Werder Bremen 2-1 while Monchengladbach gave away their lead twice to share the spoils with Wolfsburg at the 6th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

Werder Bremen missed the opportunity to grab the top spot in the table as Stuttgart returned to winning ways owing to the goals from Anastasios Donis and Gonazalo Castro.

The "Green-Whites" had a good start into the game and kept Stuttgart goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler busy.

However, the goal was scored at the other end of the pitch and against the run of the play as Daniel Didavi's fine through ball allowed Anastasios Donis to round Bremen custodian Jiri Pavlenka for the opener with 19 minutes played.

Bremen responded well and should have levelled the scores moments later but Theodor Gebre Selassie missed a promising chance before Milos Veljkovic booked his second yellow card to receive his marching orders in the 36th minute.

The visitors, then with ten-men, lacked in penetration but still were able to restore parity thanks to a moment of madness from goalkeeper Zieler, who spilled a throw-in from Borna Sosa into his own goal with 68 minutes into the game.

Bremen threw everything up front and got caught flat-footed as Mario Gomez set up for Gonzalo Castro, who made use of Stuttgart's numerical advantage to slot home the winner seven minutes later.

Stuttgart remained on the front foot but squandered a number of golden chances while Bremen continued offensively minded and in the search of the lucky punch.

With the win, Stuttgart climbed to the 15th position whereas Bremen slipped to the 5th place.

Borussia Monchengladbach took the lead twice but resilient Wolfsburg secured a two-all-draw to secure one point on home soil.

The "Foals" had a perfect start as summer signing Alassane Plea had all time and space to break the deadlock with a well-placed curl shot from 16 meters in the 7th minute.

The "Wolves" remained unimpressed and responded only five minutes later when Renato Steffen benefitted on a misplaced pass to hammer the equalizer from 20 meters into the top right corner.

Both sides continued to exchange offensive actions after the half time. Similar to the first half, it was Monchengladbach who broke the tie as Patrick Herrmann's build-up work allowed Thorgan Hazard to finish off the fast break for the 2-1 lead in the 48th minute.

It was again a short-lived joy for the visitors as Wolfsburg bounced back nine minutes later when Wout Weghorst made the most out of Yunus Malli's cross to level the scores.

Wolfsburg had the chance to snatch all three points but John Brooks' header following a corner missed the target just wide.

With the result, Monchengladbach stay on the 4th position while Wolfsburg slumped to the 7th place in the standings.

Elsewhere, Schalke ended their winless run as Alessandro Schoepf sole goal edged Mainz 1-0.

Nuremberg eased 3-0 past Fortuna Dusseldorf in the newly promoted clash and Yussuf Poulsen's brace helped Leipzig to down Hoffenheim 2-1.
